How to Cancel YouTube Premium

Quick answer

On a computer, go to youtube.com/paid_memberships, click Manage membership, then Deactivate, then Continue to cancel, choose a reason and click Yes, cancel. Your benefits continue until the end of the billing period. If you joined from the YouTube app on an iPhone, cancel through Apple.

Before you cancel

  • You can pause instead of canceling, for 1 to 6 months. Annual plans can't be paused, and pausing isn't available if Apple bills you.
  • While paused, you and any family members lose Premium benefits, and you aren't charged. YouTube Premium downloads are kept but can't be played until you resume.
  • These steps also cancel YouTube Music Premium.

How to cancel YouTube Premium

Cancel on a computer

  1. Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships.
  2. Click Manage membership.
  3. Click Deactivate.
  4. Click Continue to cancel.
  5. Select your reason for canceling and click Next.
  6. Click Yes, cancel.

Cancel in the YouTube app (Android)

  1. Tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships.
  2. Tap the membership you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Continue to cancel.
  4. Select your reason for canceling and tap Next.
  5. Tap Yes, cancel.

Cancel through Apple (iPhone or iPad)

Use this if you joined from the YouTube app on an iPhone or iPad.

  1. In the YouTube app, go to Settings, then Purchases and memberships.
  2. Tap the membership you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Manage Apple Subscriptions.
  4. Tap your membership, then Cancel.

If Google bills you but you use an iPhone, cancel on a non-iOS device such as a computer.

Common problems

I can't cancel in the iPhone app

If Google bills you (you didn't join through Apple), you have to cancel on another device, such as a computer, at youtube.com/paid_memberships.

I want a break, not to cancel

Pause your membership for 1 to 6 months from youtube.com/paid_memberships (Manage membership, Deactivate, then Pause). Annual plans and Apple-billed memberships can't be paused.

Refunds and your final bill

  • After canceling, your benefits continue until the end of the billing period, and you won't be charged again unless you re-subscribe.

Make sure it worked

  • Keep the confirmation email, a screenshot of the confirmation screen, or any reference number.
  • Check your next card or bank statement to confirm the charge has stopped.
