Before you cancel

  • Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. Cancel before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
  • Deleting the HBO Max app does not cancel your subscription.
  • If you have the Extra Member add-on, it's canceled when your base plan expires, and you get a prorated refund for any days left on the add-on.

How to cancel HBO Max

Cancel on the HBO Max website

Use this if HBO Max bills you directly.

  1. Go to HBOMax.com/subscription and sign in.
  2. Select Cancel Your Subscription.
  3. Confirm your cancellation and note your expiration date.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions.
  3. Tap HBO Max, then Cancel Subscription.

Apple emails you to confirm the cancellation.

  1. Open the Play Store app and tap your profile icon at the top right.
  2. Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap HBO Max, then Cancel subscription.

  1. Go to Amazon.com/appstoresubscriptions.
  2. In Your Subscriptions, find HBO Max and turn off auto-renewal.

  2. Find HBO Max under Active Subscriptions and select Manage subscription.
  3. Turn off auto-renew, then confirm.

  1. Go to hulu.com/account.
  2. In Your Subscription, select Manage Add-ons.
  3. Find HBO Max and change its checkmark to an X.
  4. Select Review Changes to confirm.

Cancel through Prime Video Channels

  1. Go to amazon.com/video/subscriptions/manage.
  2. Find HBO Max under Your Channels.
  3. Select Cancel Channel and confirm.

Cancel through YouTube TV

  1. Sign in at tv.youtube.com.
  2. Choose your profile, then Settings > Membership.
  3. Next to HBO Max, choose Cancel and confirm.

Billed by someone else?

Important

If a TV, internet or phone provider bills you for HBO Max, sign in to that provider's website, go to its help center, or contact it to cancel.

  • HBO Max's help center lists AT&T, Cox, DIRECTV, Sling TV, Spectrum, Verizon and Xfinity, plus Samsung TV, Xumo and YouTube Primetime Channels.

If HBO Max bills you directly, use HBOMax.com/subscription. Otherwise, use the steps above for the company that bills you: Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku, Hulu, Prime Video Channels, YouTube TV or your TV provider.

Refunds and your final bill

  • After you cancel, you can stream until the end of your billing period.
  • If you have the Extra Member add-on, you get a prorated refund for the days left on the add-on when your base plan expires.

Make sure it worked

  • Note the expiration date shown when you confirm.
  • If Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku, Samsung or Xumo bills you, look for their confirmation email.
  • Keep the confirmation email, a screenshot of the confirmation screen, or any reference number.
  • Check your next card or bank statement to confirm the charge has stopped.
