Before you cancel

  • Wireless installment plans: the remaining unpaid installment balance, including accessory installments, is due immediately when you cancel the line and appears on your final bill.
  • Wireless billing: if you cancel in the middle of a bill period, you're responsible for the entire period. It isn't prorated.
  • New device? If you activated a device within the last 14 days, see AT&T's Wireless Return Policy page to return it and cancel.
  • Internet promotions: if you signed up through a promotion and cancel before your service commitment ends, AT&T may charge penalties and extra fees.
  • Bundles: you may lose discounts if you remove Internet Air from a bundled account.
  • AT&T email: you have to wait 30 to 60 days after canceling before you can delete an AT&T email account.
  • Only the account owner can cancel home internet or U-verse TV.

Cancel AT&T wireless by chat or phone

  1. Choose Chat on AT&T's cancel page when it's available, or call 800.331.0500.
  2. Ask to cancel service or remove a line.

Illinois, Massachusetts and New York wireless accounts only: if you ordered service online, you may be able to cancel online at att.com/attaccount.

Cancel AT&T Internet, Internet Air or U-verse TV by phone

  1. Call 800.288.2020 (for U-verse TV, during normal business hours).
  2. Cancellations on a holiday are handled the next regular business day; on a weekend, during weekend hours that vary by region.

Illinois or Massachusetts AT&T Internet Air accounts only: if you ordered service online, you may be able to cancel online at att.com/myatt.

Return your AT&T internet equipment

  1. Take your unboxed equipment and your 9- to 12-digit account number to a company-owned FedEx Office Pack and Ship or The UPS Store. There's no charge to you.
  2. Return the gateway, any Wi-Fi extender, and the power supply. Don't return wall-mounted equipment such as Ethernet jacks or Optical Network Terminals.
  3. Make sure the store staff scan your equipment, and don't use drop boxes.
  4. Return your undamaged equipment within 21 days of the service change or disconnect date to avoid a fee.

Common problems

I was charged for the whole month after canceling wireless

That's AT&T's policy. A mid-period wireless cancellation isn't prorated, so you're responsible for the entire bill period.

I was charged a non-return fee for equipment

AT&T says to have store staff scan your equipment at drop-off to avoid a non-return fee. Keep proof of your drop-off in case you need to dispute the fee.

Refunds and your final bill

  • Wireless: no proration for cancelling mid-period, and any remaining installment balance is on your final bill.
  • Internet Air: service stays active until the end of your bill period.

Make sure it worked

  • Keep the confirmation email, a screenshot of the confirmation screen, or any reference number.
  • Check your next card or bank statement to confirm the charge has stopped.
