Before you cancel

  • Timing: cancellations are future dated and typically take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. You're responsible for charges and usage until then, including if you port your number to another carrier.
  • Device payments (EIP): if you cancel one line but keep others, payments for that line's device continue monthly. If you cancel the whole account, any remaining device balance is due on your final bill.
  • Promotions: canceling lines can end free or discounted line promotions, device promo credits and multi-line discounts. Some plans need a certain number of lines, so you may need to change plans.
  • Voicemail: voicemail messages and DIGITS call history are permanently deleted after cancellation. Save anything important first.
  • Smartwatches: unpair a watch line from its phone line before canceling.
  • AutoPay: your final bill may still be charged to your saved payment method unless you remove AutoPay before the final payment processes.

How to cancel T-Mobile

Cancel T-Mobile by phone

  1. Dial 611 from your T-Mobile phone, or call 1-800-937-8997. Customer Care is available daily from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific Time.
  2. Tell the representative which lines you want to cancel.

T-Mobile says it would like to review your account and see what options it can offer to keep you.

Return T-Mobile Home Internet equipment

  1. After you cancel a Home Internet line, T-Mobile emails you a return shipping label.
  2. Return the gateway and any mesh Wi-Fi extender, with the power adapter if available, within 14 days.

T-Mobile says late returns may bring a non-return fee of up to $370 plus tax, and damaged equipment may cost extra.

Common problems

I canceled a line but I'm still paying for the phone

If other lines stay active on the account, device payments tied to the canceled line keep billing monthly. If the entire account is canceled, any remaining device balance becomes due on your final bill.

I no longer have access to my account to pay the final bill

T-Mobile says you can pay with Guest Pay using your account number.

Refunds and your final bill

  • Security deposits or account credits may be applied to your remaining balance.
  • If a credit balance remains 30 days after your final bill, a refund may be issued automatically.
  • Unpaid balances may be sent to collections.

Make sure it worked

  • Keep the confirmation email, a screenshot of the confirmation screen, or any reference number.
  • Check your next card or bank statement to confirm the charge has stopped.
